Adeleke flags off reelection campaign, insists Accord remains duly registered party

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Tuesday flagged off his reelection campaign for the August 15 governorship election, insisting that the Accord Party remains a duly registered political party and would participate in the poll.

Addressing party leaders and supporters at Freedom Park, Osogbo, Adeleke, who declared that Accord would not bow to what he described as dark forces, charged supporters to mobilise voters across all polling units in the state and sustain the momentum of the campaign.

“Our party remains a duly registered political party in this country. I charge you to hold your head high. There should be no dull moment. Rule of law must prevail. Democracy must survive,” he said.

Highlighting his administration’s achievements since 2022, Adeleke said his government had paid inherited half-salary arrears, reduced pension liabilities, upgraded infrastructure, rehabilitated schools, improved healthcare services, advanced mechanised farming, reformed the water sector, and promoted fiscal transparency.

The governor unveiled an updated five-point agenda for a second term, focusing on the welfare of youths, women, and workers; infrastructure consolidation; agro-industrial expansion; affordable healthcare and education; and an improved business environment for job creation.

The campaign rally also witnessed endorsements from several groups and defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on behalf of supporters of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the APC, Senator Iyiola Omisore, Hon. Folorunso Bamisaye said Omisore’s supporters had resolved to back Adeleke’s second-term aspiration, stating that the governor had consistently demonstrated electoral strength in Osun State.

Bamisaye said, “The APC is scared of Adeleke because he has defeated them three times. They are now looking for subtle ways to disqualify him from participating in the election. They envisage that he will win for the fourth time, and are now resorting to using court orders against him”.
