Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has received the Leadership and Service Award from Babcock University in recognition of his performance and excellence in governance during the institution’s convocation ceremony.
The award was presented on Sunday after the governor delivered the convocation lecture before more than 3,400 graduating students, academics, parents and other distinguished guests.
Receiving the honour, Sanwo-Olu described leadership as a responsibility that requires integrity, accountability and selfless service, adding that the recognition would inspire him to continue serving with the fear of God and lead by example.
In his lecture, the governor urged the graduating students to embrace opportunities, believe in Nigeria and position themselves for success in an increasingly competitive global environment.
He said his presence at the ceremony was not only to celebrate the graduates but also to encourage them as they begin a new phase of their lives, urging them to adapt to change, embrace innovation and leverage technology and globalisation to achieve their goals.
Sanwo-Olu also commended Babcock University for maintaining high academic standards and producing graduates who have distinguished themselves in different fields, describing the institution as one that has continued to equip students for meaningful contributions to society.
The governor noted that the graduating class was one of the largest in the university’s history and encouraged the students to remain optimistic about Nigeria’s future, insisting that the country still offers vast opportunities for growth, innovation and personal fulfilment.
Speaking on behalf of the graduating class, Miss Simisola Abore described the academic journey as challenging but rewarding, thanked God for the successful completion of their studies and urged her fellow graduates to remain united, uphold the values of Babcock University and give back to society.
