BEDC worker hospitalised after electric shock during maintenance in Ekiti

A technical employee of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has been hospitalised after suffering an electric shock while carrying out maintenance work on an 11-kilovolt electricity feeder in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

BEDC disclosed the incident in a statement issued Tuesday, saying it occurred at about 6:20 p.m. on Saturday at the Ado-Poly Satellite Campus area during maintenance on the 11kV Basiri Feeder.

The statement, signed by the company’s Head of Branding and Corporate Communications, Evelyn Gbiwen, identified the injured worker as Bamidele Akinyemi, a technical linesman.

According to the company, Akinyemi sustained burns to his arm and other parts of his body while carrying out an operational assignment following scheduled maintenance on the feeder.

It said the injured worker was immediately taken to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, where he is receiving medical treatment.

The company added that Akinyemi is in stable condition and responding positively to treatment.

BEDC said it remains committed to the safety and well-being of its employees and is providing the necessary support to the injured staff member during his recovery.

The company also announced that it has commenced an investigation into the incident and assured the public that appropriate action would be taken based on the outcome of the probe.
