A farmer, Bright Kalu, has appealed for justice following the killing of his 18-month-old daughter by suspected assailants at a farm settlement in Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The incident occurred at Agoti Settlement, a farming community in Idanre where the victim’s family resides. The toddler was reportedly attacked and killed under circumstances that have left residents of the area in shock.
Kalu, an indigene of Abia State, said his wife was at their residence in the settlement caring for their children while he worked on another farm located some distance away.
According to him, he was returning from a nearby camp where he had gone to purchase food items when he noticed that his wife appeared distressed and immediately inquired about the situation.
He said his wife told him that an unidentified person had attacked her at the camp. While she was able to protect three of their children during the incident, one of the children could not be found afterward.
The distraught father said he and his elder brother immediately launched a search around the settlement and nearby bushes in a bid to locate the missing child. He explained that the search ended in tragedy when they discovered the lifeless body of the 18-month-old girl behind their residence.
Kalu therefore called on the Ondo State Government, security agencies and relevant human rights organisations to ensure that those responsible for the killing are apprehended and brought to justice.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said a suspect had been arrested in connection with the case and that investigations were ongoing. He added that the suspect would be charged in court upon the conclusion of the police investigation.
