CAS sets October hearing for Senegal’s AFCON title appeal

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will hear Senegal’s appeal on 8 October against the Confederation of African Football (CAF) decision to strip them of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title and award it to Morocco.

Senegal beat hosts Morocco 1-0 in the final on 18 January 2025 in Rabat, with Pape Gueye scoring in extra time. The match was marred by controversy after Senegal players briefly walked off in protest over a penalty decision, while fan unrest led to a pitch invasion and a 20-minute delay.

In March 2026, CAF overturned the result, ruling Senegal had forfeited the match and awarding Morocco a 3-0 win, making them champions.

CAS confirmed the appeal, filed on 25 March 2026, will be heard in Lausanne behind closed doors. It seeks to restore Senegal as champions, with no decision expected on the day of the hearing.
