Ekiti moves to strengthen security, distributes 100 vehicles to agencies

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has handed over 100 operational vehicles to security agencies in the state to strengthen patrols, improve emergency response and enhance the mobility of security personnel.

The vehicles were distributed to the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Department of State Services and local security outfits operating across the state.

The presentation was made on Monday in Ekiti, where Oyebanji said the intervention was also aimed at facilitating the eventual commencement of the proposed Ekiti State Police outfit.

The governor charged the security agencies to reciprocate the gesture with increased patrols, greater visibility and faster responses to security threats, stressing that the provision of the vehicles should not be followed by operational lapses or excuses.

He also urged the agencies to make effective use of available surveillance technology and strengthen intelligence-sharing, warning against isolated operations when collaboration was necessary to protect residents and their property.

Oyebanji said his administration had consistently supported the security sector, noting that patrol vehicles, armoured personnel carriers, bulletproof vests, helmets and other equipment had previously been supplied to security agencies across the state.

The governor commended traditional rulers, community security groups and local vigilantes for their contributions to grassroots security, while pledging continued financial and logistical support for security agencies.

Oyebanji’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, Brig. Gen. Ebenezer Ogundana (retd.), reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, while the governor urged security personnel to remain vigilant ahead of upcoming state activities and elections.
