Ondo 2027: Adegbonmire says opposition is ‘dead or in ICU’

Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire, representing Ondo Central Senatorial District, has described the opposition in Ondo State as either “dead” or in the “Intensive Care Unit” ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Adegbonmire made the remark in Akure while dismissing the political alliance linked to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, saying the coalition posed no serious challenge to the All Progressives Congress in the state.

The hairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary also said he was unaware of any APC member actively working against the party through the coalition, despite reports of disagreements among some members following the party’s recent primaries.

According to the senator, disagreements arising from party primaries were normal and would not prevent APC members from resolving their differences and working together ahead of the elections.

On the reported involvement of APC members in the coalition, Adegbonmire said such claims could not be regarded as established anti-party activity because no member had openly declared an intention to work against the party.

“I don’t know about any member of APC that is in the rainbow coalition. Nobody has come out to say he wants to do anti-party,” he said.

He further expressed confidence in the APC’s prospects in Ondo State, saying, “We are going to win. In fact, we have no opposition. I can tell that for free,” while assuring supporters that the party would overcome the disagreements arising from its primaries.

Adegbonmire also criticised former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s reported proposal to restore fuel subsidy if elected president, arguing that Nigeria needed policies aimed at increasing incomes, attracting investment and reviving industries rather than returning to petrol subsidy.
