Ekiti pressure group faults Oyebanji’s performance as governor, says ‘opportunity wasted’

The Ekiti Development Agenda has criticised the administration of Biodun Oyebanji, describing it as a missed opportunity while urging residents to embrace a new direction ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

The group made its position known in a statement issued after its general meeting and signed by its National Coordinator, Ademiluyi Bamisaye.

According to the statement, the conclusion followed wide consultations with Ekiti indigenes both at home and in the diaspora, noting that expectations of improved governance have not been met.

Furthermore, the group argued that despite increased revenues accruing to states following the removal of fuel subsidy, there has been little visible development in Ekiti over the past three years.

It stated that while higher allocations were expected to translate into improvements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and employment, the reality has fallen short of these expectations.

In addition, the organisation alleged that the government has focused more on political patronage than on delivering inclusive development, while also raising concerns about attempts to stifle opposition voices.

Consequently, the group called on voters to take advantage of the 2026 election to effect change and end what it described as a pattern of underperformance.

Meanwhile, the EDA endorsed Oluwole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party, expressing confidence that his leadership would promote accountability, fairness, and economic growth, particularly in line with calls for power rotation to Ekiti South.
