Ex-APC senatorial aspirant dumps party, backs Adeleke’s re-election

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
A former All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial aspirant for Osun West, Chief Peter Ogundeji, has defected to the Accord Party and declared his support for the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Speaking at the Government House open field on Wednesday, Ogundeji, who led his supporters into the Accord Party, described Adeleke as a performing leader committed to the welfare of workers, retirees and residents of the state.
The Ejigbo-born politician admitted that he had previously misjudged Adeleke’s administration while in the APC.
“Some time ago, when I was in the APC, I was blind and not well enlightened about good governance. But today, I have seen the light in the Accord Party of Governor Adeleke,” he said.
He withdrew his previous criticisms of Adeleke, describing them as political and unfounded, while commending the governor’s performance, particularly in the welfare of civil servants, retirees and other workers.
Ogundeji also alleged that the APC failed to conduct a primary election for the Senate ticket, claiming candidates were hand-picked and that he was denied the ticket despite his contributions to the party.
He further claimed that one of the eventual APC candidates told him President Bola Tinubu had endorsed Adeleke for a second term because of his performance, adding that he believed the President had recognised the governor’s achievements.
Ogundeji urged other APC members to join him in supporting Adeleke’s re-election in the August 15 governorship poll.
