FG pays D’Tigress players $100,000 each, fulfils presidential reward

The federal government has paid the naira equivalent of $100,000 to each player of Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, completing the cash component of the presidential reward promised the team.

Each official of the team also received the naira equivalent of $50,000.

President Bola Tinubu disclosed this via his X account on Thursday, saying the payments completed the reward package approved for the D’Tigress, which also included national honours and three-bedroom houses in Abuja.

The President said the implementation took time because the government had to follow due process and ensure that all commitments were properly fulfilled.

He said the completion of the rewards marked the first time a Federal Government had fulfilled presidential sporting rewards of such scale within one year.

“A promise made must be a promise kept,” Tinubu said, stressing that Nigerian athletes who bring honour to the country deserve more than applause.

The President also disclosed that the Federal Government was concluding the outstanding cash rewards promised the Super Falcons.

According to him, the Super Falcons players and officials had already received title documents for their house allocations as well as National Honours certificates.
