Fire service saves N200m property in Osun cold room blaze

The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Osun State Command, has contained a fire outbreak at a cold room in Osogbo, saving property estimated at N200 million.
In a statement by the FFS Public Relations Officer, DSF Omoyemi Ojo, the fire outbreak occurred at Hepibuhalah Cold Room, Eja-Tutu Bus Stop, along the Gbongan-Ibadan Expressway, Owode-Ede, in the early hours of Saturday.
Ojo said the command received a distress call at about 3:10 a.m. from Engineer Femi Adedapo, alerting it to the fire outbreak at the premises.
Following the alert, the command mobilised FFS 141, driven by IF Adejumo, with DSF Ogunremi in charge of the crew, arriving at the scene at approximately 3:40 a.m.
According to the command’s spokesperson, the fire was confined to the rooftop of the upper floor, covering an estimated area of 50 feet by 100 feet. She said preliminary investigation indicated that an electrical surge was suspected to have caused the fire.
She said the fire was successfully extinguished using one medium jet of water from FFS 141, with additional support from the Osun State Fire Service appliance from Abere Fire Station.
The command said the situation was brought under control with no casualty recorded, while property loss was estimated at about N10 million.
The command urged members of the public to observe necessary fire safety precautions and promptly report fire emergencies.
