First Lady pays condolence visit to Hajia Turai Yar’Adua

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has paid a condolence visit to Hajia Turai Yar’Adua, the wife of late former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, following the passing of her mother-in-law, Hajia Dada Yar’Adua.

During the visit, which took place at the Abuja residence of the Yar’Adua family, Senator Tinubu was accompanied by Hajia Nana Shettima, the wife of the Vice President; the wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives; the wife of the Deputy Senate President; and other dignitaries. The First Lady expressed her admiration for the late matriarch, highlighting the legacy she left through her children.

“A truly successful and fulfilled woman is not defined by her position or wealth, but by how well she manages her family, raises her children, and leaves a legacy for future generations. Dada accomplished all of these. She saw her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, which is truly remarkable,” Senator Tinubu stated.

She encouraged Hajia Turai to remain strong and to carry on the legacies of the Yar’Adua family, stepping into the shoes of the late matriarch.

Senator Tinubu also expressed her gratitude to the former First Lady for her unwavering support, especially in offering motherly advice despite their different political affiliations.

“Despite our different political affiliations, we are one family. You have always been there to support me; your advice has always been invaluable,” she added.

In her response, Hajia Turai Yar’Adua described her late mother-in-law as both a friend and sister who provided encouragement during challenging times. She expressed her gratitude to the First Lady and her entourage for their visit, noting that it was a significant source of comfort to the family.

Hajia Nana Shettima, the wife of the Vice President, offered prayers for the repose of the soul of the departed, for the strength of the family, and for the nation as a whole.

The First Lady was also received by several members of the Yar’Adua family, including some of the children of the late former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

Hajia Dada Yar’Adua passed away on Monday, September 2, at the age of 102. She was the mother of the late former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, the late General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, and Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua.
