Former lawmaker Babatunde Oduyoye resigns from Makinde’s advisory council over personal reasons

Former Chief Whip of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in the House of Representatives and Babameto of Ibadanland, Hon. Babatunde Oduyoye, has resigned his membership of the Oyo State Advisory Council, citing personal reasons.

Oduyoye conveyed his decision in a resignation letter dated July 24, 2026, addressed to Governor Seyi Makinde through the Chairman of the Oyo State Advisory Council, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN), stating that his resignation takes immediate effect.

The former federal lawmaker explained that personal exigencies had made it impossible for him to continue participating in the affairs of the advisory council despite appreciating the opportunity to serve on the body.

Oduyoye represented Ibadan North West/Ibadan South West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives between 1999 and 2007. He also served as Special Adviser on Political Matters to Governor Makinde from 2019 to 2023 before joining the advisory council.

In his letter, he thanked Governor Makinde for giving him another opportunity to contribute to the development of Oyo State through his appointment to the council.

He also commended the advisory council for its contributions to governance, describing it as a respected body that has continued to play significant roles in the state’s democratic and administrative processes.

“I write to intimate Your Excellency of my decision to resign my membership of the Oyo State Advisory Council forthwith. As much as I appreciate my membership of the revered body and its contributions to the governance system in our dear state, personal exigencies have constrained my continued participation in the August body,” the letter read.

Oduyoye wished Governor Makinde and the people of Oyo State continued success in the state’s democratic journey, while expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve in different capacities under the current administration.
