Four police officers detained in Ondo over inappropriate remarks

The Ondo State Police Command has detained four officers featured in a viral video allegedly making unprofessional and ethnically offensive remarks during a stop-and-search operation along the Lagos-Benin Expressway.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this on Friday, saying the officers were identified and taken into custody following the circulation of the video on social media.
The affected officers were identified as ASP Elomore Sodayo, Inspector Adefila Adewale, Inspector Olorunfemi Opeyemi and Inspector Odusola Peter.
Jimoh said the Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, had ordered a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and establish the level of involvement of each officer.
He said the Nigeria Police Force would not tolerate misconduct, incivility or any action capable of undermining public confidence, promoting ethnic division or bringing the Force into disrepute.
“The Nigeria Police Force does not condone any form of misconduct. Officers are expected to conduct themselves professionally, respect human dignity and comply with the force’s code of conduct and standard operating procedures,” Jimoh said.
He assured members of the public that the investigation would be transparent and fair, adding that any officer found culpable would face disciplinary action in line with the law and the force’s regulations.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to professional and community-oriented policing and urged residents to continue reporting cases of police misconduct through the appropriate complaint channels.
