Gani Adams calls for innovative measures to expand Osun-Osogbo Festival

The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has called on the Osun State Government, the Ataoja’s Palace and other stakeholders to adopt innovative measures to expand the reach and economic impact of the annual Osun-Osogbo Festival.
Adams made the call on Friday at the grand finale of the 2026 Osun-Osogbo Festival, where he proposed the use of technology, including live-streaming events, interactive digital platforms and social media, to attract global audiences and engage younger generations.
He also advocated the diversification of the festival through cultural workshops, art exhibitions, culinary showcases and traditional craft markets, as well as partnerships with international cultural organisations and tourism agencies.
“To ensure the festival continues to contribute significantly to the economy of Osun State and Nigeria’s GDP, a multifaceted approach is necessary. Strengthening the festival’s tourism infrastructure, such as accommodation, transportation and security, is vital to accommodate increasing visitor numbers comfortably and safely,” Adams said.
He added that supporting artisans, performers and small businesses during the festival and integrating it into broader tourism strategies would maximise its economic benefits.
Speaking at the event, Governor Ademola Adeleke reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting indigenous activities that project the image of Osun State globally.
Represented by his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, the governor said his administration would continue to promote Yoruba culture and tradition while urging Yoruba people to remain proud of their cultural heritage.
The Osun-Osogbo Festival is one of Nigeria’s foremost cultural events, attracting thousands of visitors annually and showcasing the rich heritage of the Yoruba people.
