In an effort to boost basic education in Ekiti State, the state government has announced the release of N259.45 million as running grants to public primary schools.
The Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Prof. Femi Akinwumi, disclosed this during the distribution of cheques in Ado-Ekiti.
Akinwunmi noted that the funds were meant to support daily school operations, including maintenance and provision of learning materials.
He further indicated that the initiative reflects Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s commitment to improving the standard of basic education, adding that the grants were shared among 927 public primary schools, with allocations based on pupils’ enrolment.
While addressing beneficiaries, the SUBEB boss urged school heads to ensure transparency and accountability in the use of the funds, stressing the need for teachers to remain dedicated.
“These grants must be properly managed to improve the learning environment and academic performance of pupils,” he said.
Speaking with newsmen, the beneficiaries commended the government and promised to utilise the funds judiciously.
