Lagos invests in young creative talents, backs early discovery

The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to discovering and nurturing young talents through sustained investment in arts, culture and creative education.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, stated this at the closing ceremony of the Surulere Children Art & Crafts Workshop and Exhibition held at Adegoke Primary School, Surulere.
The month-long programme, organised by the Nigerian Children Cultural Heritage Initiative and endorsed by the Ministry, trained children and teenagers throughout August in drawing, painting, photography, poetry and crafts.
Speaking at the event, Aregbe said the initiative was designed to “catch them young” by exposing children to culture not only as heritage but also as a pathway to creativity, confidence and economic opportunities.
He commended parents for supporting their children’s participation and praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for prioritising youth development, culture and human capital development.
The closing ceremony featured traditional dances, indigenous music, Yoruba chants and a children’s fashion parade, alongside an exhibition of artworks and crafts produced during the workshop.
The Ministry said initiatives of this nature provide platforms for skills development, cultural preservation and early talent discovery, reaffirming its commitment to youth-focused creative programmes under the State’s THEMES Plus Agenda.
