Lai Mohammed mourns ex-finance minister Abubakar Alhaji

Former Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has expressed condolences to Hajiya Aisha Abubakar following the death of her father, former Minister of Finance and ex-Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji.

Mohammed, who spoke in his capacity as Managing Partner of Bruit Costaud, conveyed the condolences in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday.

He described the late Alhaji as an accomplished elder statesman whose contributions to Nigeria’s economic and political development earned him widespread respect across the country.

According to Mohammed, the late former minister’s values and legacy were evident in the public service and leadership demonstrated by his daughter, Aisha Abubakar, who serves on Bruit Costaud’s Advisory Board.

He said, “We recognise this as an irreparable loss, not only to her and the Abubakar family, but to the Sultanate, the government and people of Sokoto State, and the countless mentees and associates the late statesman inspired throughout his life.”

Mohammed prayed for Allah to grant the deceased Al-Jannah Firdaus, forgive his shortcomings, and give Aisha Abubakar, her family and the Sultanate the strength to bear the loss.

Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, a former Minister of Finance and senior statesman, died earlier this week at the age of 87 after a distinguished career in public service that also included serving as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
