LGAN seeks FG support for 2026 All-Africa Challenge Trophy in Abuja
The Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) has sought Federal Government support for the hosting of the 2026 All-Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) in Abuja through a proposed partnership with the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy.
The request was presented on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by LGAN President and Chairperson of the AACT 2026 Local Organising Committee, Dr Lami Onayi Ahmed, to the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa.
Ahmed said the association was seeking the ministry’s support as a Cultural Night Partner to showcase Nigerian arts, music, fashion and cuisine to participating African teams, diplomats, government officials and members of the international media.
LGAN also requested that the ministry designate the championship as an official cultural economy event and facilitate the inclusion of the AACT 2026 Sports-to-Business Investment Pavilion in Nigeria’s presentation at the 4th Nigeria-Belgium-Luxembourg Business Forum scheduled for Brussels in October 2026.
Responding, Musawa said the ministry would review the proposal and explore areas of collaboration, noting that golf promotes resilience, appreciation of nature and positive mental health.
“This Cultural Night partnership falls squarely within the mandate of the ministry. This is what we want to encourage,” the minister said.
She added that hosting the championship at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja, from November 2 to 7, 2026, would provide an opportunity to expand Nigeria’s tourism narrative beyond Lagos and boost the local economy in the Federal Capital Territory.
The tournament, sanctioned by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, is expected to attract more than 30 African national delegations, diplomats, government representatives and international media organisations to Abuja for a week of sporting competition, cultural exchange and business engagement.
