Matawalle commissions DICON Institute of Technology

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has commissioned the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) Institute of Technology in Kakuri, Kaduna State, describing it as a major step towards strengthening Nigeria’s indigenous defence manufacturing capacity.
Matawalle also inaugurated a solar power system at the DICON headquarters, saying the projects reflect the Federal Government’s commitment to building a self-reliant defence industry through education, research and technological innovation.
Speaking at the commissioning on Thursday, the minister said the country’s security depends not only on advanced military hardware but also on developing a skilled workforce capable of driving innovation in the defence sector.
“In today’s rapidly evolving security environment, the strength of a nation’s defence lies not only in modern equipment but also in the expertise, knowledge and capacity of its people,” he said.
He added that the institute demonstrates President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to expanding indigenous capacity through education, research, innovation and technological advancement.
Describing the institute as a strategic milestone, Matawalle said it would “nurture the talents and innovation required to strengthen Nigeria’s industrial and technological resilience.”
He urged government institutions, industry players, academia and development partners to support the institute’s mission.
“Together, we can build the knowledge and skilled workforce required to secure Nigeria’s future,” he said.
