NDC empowers Obi, Kwankwaso to nominate campaign council officers

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has empowered its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to nominate key officers of the party’s presidential campaign council ahead of its planned inauguration.

The party said the positions include director-general, deputy director-general (North), campaign spokesman and deputy, head of new media, finance director and deputy finance director, among others.

According to the NDC, the arrangement followed meetings between Obi, Kwankwaso, National Leader Seriake Dickson and other party leaders. It said a proposed structure for the council was prepared in August and forwarded to the presidential candidate and his running mate for their input.

The party’s national publicity secretary, Osa Director, said Obi and Kwankwaso had been given a free hand to make the nominations, while contributions and nominations were also received from stakeholders across the country.

The NDC said campaign finances would be jointly managed by the designated finance director and deputy in collaboration with the national treasurer, with proceeds paid into a dedicated presidential campaign account.

It said the arrangement was designed to promote transparency in campaign financing and ensure compliance with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s reporting requirements under the Electoral Act.

The party said the inauguration, initially scheduled for the first week of September, was postponed due to Obi’s travel schedule. It added that a new date and the membership of the council would be announced after the two candidates provide their outstanding inputs.

The NDC also said preparations were underway to deploy party agents nationwide, directing state and local government chairmen to compile lists of agents for the National Assembly, governorship and State Assembly elections for screening, ratification and training.
