NDLEA intercepts drug traffickers with opioids, tramadol in MMIA

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have intercepted several consignments of illicit drugs at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, hidden in unusual places such as carton walls, winter jackets and body cream containers.

According to a statement made public on Sunday, the agency said two suspects linked to drug shipments bound for Italy were arrested at the airport.

Western Post confirmed the suspects to be Friday Ehianuka who was caught while attempting to board a flight with tramadol pills concealed in containers of body cream, and Christian Agbonhese, who was arrested with thousands of tramadol and other opioid pills hidden inside winter jackets.

NDLEA said Christian Agbonhese admitted he was to be paid in euros if he had successfully delivered the drugs abroad.

In a separate operation, the agency disclosed that its officials intercepted parcels containing a strong strain of cannabis and methamphetamine concealed in carton packages being shipped abroad at a courier company in Lagos,

The agency also recorded several arrests and seizures in different parts of the country, including Kano, where two suspects were arrested with large quantities of cannabis.

In the Federal Capital Territory, NDLEA operatives equally intercepted a commercial bus along the Gwagwalada expressway and recovered thousands of tramadol pills hidden in the vehicle, leading to the arrest of the driver. Similar operations in Oyo State, Kaduna State, Edo State, Taraba State and Adamawa State led to the arrest of several suspects and the seizure of large quantities of illicit drugs.

In his remarks, the NDLEA Chairman, Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended officers across the country for their efforts and urged them to continue the fight against drug trafficking while also promoting awareness against drug abuse.
