The Ondo State House of Assembly has summoned the management of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission over allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement.

According to lawmakers, the decision followed petitions from stakeholders, community leaders and concerned residents who demanded urgent legislative action.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, disclosed this while addressing journalists after a plenary session on Monday.

Oladiji explained that the invitation was backed by Section 128(1) of the 1999 Constitution, which empowers the Assembly to investigate and compel the appearance of individuals, as well as request relevant documents.

He indicated that the House would not remain passive in the face of allegations against agencies responsible for improving the welfare of citizens.

Earlier, the Chairman of the House Committee on OSOPADEC, Hon. Oluwatoyin Allen, said the move was aimed at ensuring the commission fulfils its mandate effectively, urging the commission’s management to cooperate fully with lawmakers by providing all necessary information to aid the probe.

Addressing the public, the Speaker assured residents, especially those in oil-producing communities, that the investigation would be transparent, unbiased and focused on strengthening accountability.
