… urges Nigerians to back SDP in 2027 general elections

The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has said that poverty in Nigeria is the result of policy failures and poor leadership, insisting that the country’s economic challenges can be overcome through effective governance, clear priorities and deliberate planning.

Adebayo made the assertion in a message posted on his official X account, @Pres_Adebayo, where he criticized the economic direction of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and called for a different approach to governance.

According to him, despite nearly three years of economic reforms, millions of Nigerians continue to face worsening hardship, rising living costs and declining purchasing power, with little improvement in their daily lives.

“Poverty is not Nigeria’s destiny. It is the result of failed leadership and it can be defeated with the right government, the right priorities, and the right plan,” Adebayo stated.

He argued that Nigeria’s greatest challenge is not a shortage of natural resources or economic potential, but the inability of successive governments to translate economic growth into meaningful opportunities for ordinary citizens.

The SDP chieftain maintained that true economic progress should be measured not only by macroeconomic indicators but by the ability of citizens to afford basic necessities, secure decent jobs and live safely in their communities.

Adebayo also presented the SDP as a credible alternative, saying the party’s agenda is focused on poverty reduction, job creation, improved security and the equitable management of the nation’s resources. “The problem in Nigeria is not a lack of resources. It is a lack of opportunities and a failure by those in power to ensure that growth reaches the people,” he said.

Calling for greater political participation and national renewal, Adebayo urged Nigerians to embrace change through democratic engagement. He encouraged citizens to support the SDP, declaring: “Change begins now. Join the SDP. Say farewell to poverty.”
