Popular Nigerian musician Damilola Afolabi, fondly known as L.A.X, has announced his engagement to the public. The artiste shared memorable moments from his proposal in a video, in which his partner, Ella, says yes.

Releasing the video, captioned “To loving you forever always. D & E” on his Instagram page on Thursday, the footage showed L.A.X leading Ella to a decorated riverbank, presenting her with a bouquet of flowers and kneeling to propose.

Ella accepted his proposal and was visibly moved to tears. The couple shared some bonding moments before the video ended.

Reacting to the video, fans and industry colleagues poured out congratulatory messages in the comment section.

The Afropop and Afrobeats star began his music career as a rapper in secondary school with a group of three boys called Flyboiz, releasing a single titled Busy Body before going solo.

L.A.X rose to prominence in 2013 with his hit song Caro, a collaboration with Wizkid under Starboy Entertainment. The song was later nominated for ‘Hottest Single of the Year’ and ‘Diaspora Artiste of the Year’ at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

Shortly after Caro, he collaborated again with Wizkid on another track titled Ginger, which also went viral and strengthened his career in the Nigerian music industry.

He later established his own record label, Rasaki. His latest album, Nobody Like Zaza, was released in 2025.
