FCSC Chairman Olaopa charges youths to create jobs, drive growth

The Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), Prof. Tunji Olaopa, has urged Nigerian youths to embrace entrepreneurship and become job creators rather than see themselves solely as applicants for government employment.

Olaopa made the call on Tuesday in Abuja in a commendation letter to the promoters of AFRIKARS Inc. to mark the launch of the new automobile company.

He acknowledged the Federal Government’s efforts to create employment opportunities for young Nigerians in the public sector but stressed the need for youths to draw inspiration from entrepreneurs such as the promoters of AFRIKARS.

“Government, for its part, has an important responsibility to ensure that qualified Nigerians have access to fair and merit-based employment opportunities. As Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, I am conscious of the importance of an effective, professional and competent civil service in national development.

“The public service requires qualified, committed and capable Nigerians to fulfil its responsibilities. At the same time, the size of our population and the scale of our economic aspirations make it imperative that we broaden our understanding of employment, productivity and wealth creation.

“Our young people must increasingly see themselves not only as applicants for available jobs but also as potential creators of enterprises, employers of labour, developers of technology and contributors to national prosperity,” he said.

Commending Femi Omotoso and his team for establishing AFRIKARS, Olaopa said businesses of this nature could bridge market gaps, respond to changing consumer needs and contribute to the development of a more dynamic automobile industry.

He added that, when built on sound business principles, such enterprises could stimulate growth in related sectors, including logistics, vehicle maintenance, insurance, financing and digital services.
