Oluremi Tinubu calls for expanded access to hepatitis prevention, treatment

First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has called for increased access to prevention, testing, treatment and care for viral hepatitis, urging greater public awareness and action to eliminate the disease as a public health threat by 2030.
In a message to commemorate World Hepatitis Day 2026 on Tuesday, the First Lady joined the global community in raising awareness about viral hepatitis and the need to improve access to life-saving health services.
Reflecting on this year’s theme, “Hepatitis: Let’s break it down,” Tinubu said there was an urgent need to intensify public education on the disease and remove barriers that prevent people from accessing prevention and treatment.
She stressed the importance of tackling stigma associated with hepatitis, encouraging early diagnosis and strengthening collective efforts to achieve the global target of eliminating hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030.
“Together, we can reduce stigma, promote early diagnosis, and strengthen our commitment to eliminating hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030,” she said.
The First Lady wished Nigerians a successful World Hepatitis Day commemoration and urged continued collaboration in the fight against the disease.
