Oluremi Tinubu honoured with diaspora health award

…..Urges sustained support for Nigeria’s healthcare system

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, has received the Diaspora Health and Humanity Champion Award at the 2026 National Diaspora Merit Awards in recognition of her contributions to the country’s healthcare sector and humanitarian development.

The award was presented at the fourth edition of the National Diaspora Merit Awards organised by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), with the theme, “Harnessing Global Diaspora Expertise to Strengthen Local Health Systems for National Development.”

Represented by the Wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, the First Lady described the recognition as a call to strengthen collaboration in improving access to quality healthcare across Nigeria.

She announced that 70 medical professionals under the Diaspora Health Impact Initiative (DHII) would return to Nigeria to undertake medical missions, specialist training and capacity-building programmes in different parts of the country.

According to her, the initiative demonstrates the patriotism and commitment of Nigerians in the diaspora to improving healthcare delivery in the country.

Senator Tinubu also urged Nigerian healthcare professionals abroad to continue contributing their expertise through knowledge transfer, mentorship and training for the next generation of medical personnel.

She said President Bola Tinubu’s administration remained committed to building a resilient and efficient healthcare system, stressing that quality healthcare is essential to national development.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, commended Nigerians in the diaspora for their contributions to national development through investments, knowledge transfer, humanitarian interventions and professional excellence.
