Omu-Aran residents pledge support as new Army battalion takes off in Kwara

Residents of Omu-Aran in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State have pledged their support and cooperation to the Nigerian Army following the deployment of a new battalion to the community.

The residents, led by the Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba AbdulRaheem Adeoti, described the deployment as a major step towards strengthening security in Omu-Aran and other communities across Kwara South.

The community also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for supporting the establishment of the battalion, saying its presence would promote peace, security and development in the area.

Speaking during a welcome ceremony for the troops, Oba Adeoti assured the Army of the community’s full support, particularly in the area of welfare for the officers and soldiers deployed to Omu-Aran.

“I want to assure you that our support, especially in terms of the welfare of the battalion, will be 100 per cent, by the grace of God. You will enjoy your stay in Omu-Aran,” the monarch said.

The traditional ruler also thanked the military authorities for retaining Omu-Aran as the location of the battalion, while the Executive Chairman of Irepodun Local Government, Abdulazeez Yakub, pledged the council’s cooperation with the Army.

The President of the Omu-Aran Development Association, Prince Niyi Adeyeye, said the deployment would strengthen security in Omu-Aran and Kwara South. He also commended security agencies, vigilantes and community security volunteers for their efforts in protecting residents.

Speaking earlier, the Commander of 22 Armoured Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Nicholas Rume, said the deployment was part of efforts to expand the Army’s operational capacity and improve its response to security challenges. He thanked residents for their warm reception and assured them of the troops’ commitment to working with the community.
