Ondo varsity assures students ASUU strike will end soon

The management of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, has appealed to students to remain calm, assuring them that the Ondo State Government is taking steps to resolve the ongoing strike by the institution’s academic staff.

The assurance was contained in a statement issued by the Deputy Registrar, Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Mr. Sola Imoru.

The management was reacting to the reported 72-hour ultimatum issued by the Students’ Union to the state government over the lingering industrial action.

It said the ultimatum was unnecessary, explaining that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa had already approved a special intervention fund to enable the university offset its financial obligations.

According to the statement, the intervention had earlier been communicated to the Students’ Union leadership, while the release and payment process was already underway.

The university urged students to remain patient, expressing confidence that the issues responsible for the strike would soon be resolved.

It also advised the Students’ Union to seek clarification from the management before making public statements, reaffirming its commitment to dialogue, transparency and continuous engagement with stakeholders.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) branch, began an indefinite strike on July 10, 2026, over the non-payment of lecturers’ May and June 2026 salaries by the Ondo State Government.
