Osun crisis: Adeleke visits gunshot victims, blames APC supporters for violence

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Tuesday visited victims of the violent attacks that rocked parts of the state and are currently receiving treatment at the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital.
The governor, who conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the condition of the victims, expressed concern over the wave of violence reported in parts of Osogbo, Ede and Ile-Ife, describing the attacks as unacceptable and a threat to public peace.
Speaking during a press conference before the hospital visit, Adeleke alleged that supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, were responsible for the attacks that left several residents injured.
The governor said the violence began in the Sabo area of Ile-Ife in the early hours of Tuesday. He alleged that armed men travelling in a convoy of about 15 vehicles branded with the image of the APC governorship candidate opened fire at several locations, including Akoda, Aisu Junction, Owode, Olaiya, Old Garage and Oke-Fia, creating panic among residents.
“As of the time of calling this press conference, several residents were feared injured, while one or two persons were reported killed,” he said.
Adeleke also blamed former governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, and the APC governorship candidate for allegedly escalating political tensions in the state.
He called on President Bola Tinubu to call Oyetola and the APC governorship candidate to order. He also appealed to the National Security Adviser, the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security chiefs to pay special attention to the security situation in Osun State.
“The provocation is getting to an unbearable level. For the past few months, I have been calming my people to maintain peace despite persistent attacks. These attacks must stop. Our people should not be pushed to the wall,” he added.
