Osun govt disburses palliatives to civil servants

The Osun State Government says it has disbursed another round of palliatives to civil servants as part of efforts to cushion the effects of the prevailing economic challenges on their livelihoods.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the spokesperson to Governor Ademola Adeleke, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the government said the latest disbursement reflects the administration’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare.

According to the statement, the palliatives were paid to augment workers’ salaries and support them in coping with current economic realities.

The government noted that it introduced periodic palliative payments even before implementing the new minimum wage, making Osun one of the first states to adopt the measure.

It contrasted the current administration’s labour policies with those of the previous government, accusing it of depriving civil servants of their salaries and entitlements.

“This stands in stark contrast to the previous administration, which weaponised poverty and systematically deprived civil servants of their earned salaries and entitlements,” the statement said.

The government pledged its commitment to ensuring civil servants receive their rightful compensation and are treated with dignity.

It added that the welfare measures are aimed at restoring morale in the public service, attracting competent personnel and improving service delivery across the state.
