Osun poll: Cleric urges voters to shun religious sentiments, backs Oyebamiji

The Presiding Prophet of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Ibudo Asegun, Ilesa, Osun State, Prophet Dare Emmanuel, on Sunday urged Christians not to allow religion to influence their choice in the August 15 governorship election, declaring that God could place anyone, including a Muslim, in a position of authority.

The cleric spoke during a worship service attended by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), and his running mate, Kayode Adereti.

Addressing the congregation, Prophet Emmanuel said competence should take precedence over religious affiliation, urging voters to support candidates they believe can provide good governance.

“Don’t be deceived by religious differences. God can place anybody in a position of authority. If God wishes, He can put a Muslim there. Open your eyes. If we see a fellow Christian who is not doing well and we see someone who is better than him, we will support him,” he said.

The cleric subsequently endorsed the APC governorship candidate, calling on members of the church to vote for Oyebamiji and Adereti in the forthcoming election.

“I implore you, children of God, in the name of God, on August 15, vote for AMBO and Kayode,” he told the congregation.

Prophet Emmanuel said the APC candidates possessed the capacity to tackle the challenges confronting the state, particularly in education and workers’ welfare.

He also urged members of the church to share his message in their homes and workplaces, asking them not to be swayed by religious sentiments or political propaganda.
