Over 1.5 million students benefit from ₦282bn NELFUND scheme, Tinubu says

President Bola Tinubu says his administration’s social and economic intervention programmes are expanding access to education, housing, healthcare, and agriculture while creating jobs and reducing economic pressure on households.

Speaking in his third anniversary address on Friday, the President said agricultural interventions have continued to support millions of farmers through improved access to seedlings, fertilisers, mechanisation, irrigation systems, and expanded access to finance and markets.

He added that the government is also opening new agricultural corridors aimed at creating jobs, strengthening supply chains, and easing pressure on household incomes.

A major highlight of the administration’s education support scheme is the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which has provided access to higher education for over 1.5 million students.

According to Tinubu, the programme has so far disbursed more than ₦282 billion, ensuring that financially constrained students are not denied access to tertiary education.

In the housing sector, the President said the Renewed Hope Housing Programme alongside the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) is delivering over 10,000 housing units across 14 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

He noted that the projects have created over 300,000 jobs while improving access to affordable housing, with major Renewed Hope Cities in Abuja, Lagos, and Kano progressing steadily.

Tinubu also highlighted the Consumer Credit Scheme under the Credit Corporation of Nigeria (CREDICORP), saying it is expanding access to credit and creating new economic opportunities for workers and families.

On healthcare, the President said thousands of primary healthcare centres are being revitalised across the country, while health insurance coverage is expanding to include more vulnerable Nigerians.
