Akpabio says National Assembly will support Tinubu’s security efforts

Senate President Godswill Akpabio says the National Assembly will continue to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to strengthen national security across the country.

Akpabio made the pledge on Thursday after leading principal officers of the Senate on an Eid-el-Kabir homage visit to the President at his Lagos residence.

He said the visit was also to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir with the President, offer prayers for national peace, and seek divine guidance for Nigeria.

“We came here to felicitate with the President and also wish him Barka da Sallah on this Eid-el-Kabir and to pray for him for continuous good health and wisdom, and for peace to reign in Nigeria,” Akpabio said.

Speaking on security, the Senate President said the legislature would work closely with the executive to address ongoing security challenges in the country.

“We can’t do it alone. The National Assembly will assist him to ensure that we improve in the area of security,” he said.

Akpabio acknowledged that insecurity remains a challenge, but noted that security agencies have recorded improvements in their operations across the country.

The Senate President’s remarks came amid renewed calls for stronger collaboration between the executive and legislature in addressing terrorism, banditry, and other violent crimes affecting parts of the country.
