Over 100 APC members dump party for ADC in Ondo

More than 100 members of the All Progressives Congress have defected to the African Democratic Congress in Ondo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The defectors joined the ADC on Wednesday during the ward-to-ward campaign tour of the party’s candidate for the Akure North/Akure South Federal Constituency, Balarabe Abiodun Akinwumi.

The defection took place in Akure South Local Government Area as Akinwumi’s campaign team visited Wards 5 and 6, where the candidate met residents, community leaders, youths, women and party supporters.

Speaking at Oke Lisa in Ward 5, Akinwumi, who described the area as his home ward, thanked residents for the reception and said the turnout reflected their interest in the development of the constituency.

The ADC candidate noted that Ward 5, with 77 polling units, was the largest ward in Akure, adding that his familiarity with the area had enabled him to understand the challenges confronting its residents.

Akinwumi pledged to use the mandate of the people to promote grassroots development, with particular emphasis on supporting women-owned businesses, creating jobs and empowering young people.

“We will provide funds for the business of our mothers. Our youths will be gainfully engaged. We will roll out various empowerment programmes for the people,” he said.

The campaign team later moved to Oda in Ward 6, where Akinwumi reiterated his commitment to expanding economic opportunities for youths and women. The team included the Akure South ADC Chairman, Abiodun Adeyemi; Director-General of the campaign council, Ambassador Kunle Adeloye; House of Assembly aspirants, Engr. Temi Oluwalade and Aare Abiodun Oluwarotimi; Publicity Secretary, Otunba Olumide Ogunkua, among other party leaders and supporters.
