Oxford, Harvard, Cambridge scholars laud Tinubu over Jimoh Ibrahim’s UN appointment
Scholars from the University of Oxford, Harvard University and the University of Cambridge have lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the appointment of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Nations.
The academics, in separate reactions, described the appointment as well deserved, citing Ibrahim’s academic excellence, global exposure and leadership credentials.
Churchill College, Cambridge, where Ibrahim earned a doctorate in Business Management in 2023, noted that he completed the programme six months ahead of the approved four-year duration.
Professor Christoph Loch described the appointment as a great honour, praising Tinubu’s “thoughtful and strategic choice” and expressing confidence in Ibrahim’s ability to navigate the complexities of the United Nations.
Professor Othman Cole of the Cambridge Judge Business School commended Ibrahim as a resilient African leader, while Professor Chapman of the Saïd Business School described him as a “superstar.”
Professor Mathias Strohn also endorsed the appointment, calling it “the right peg in the right hole” and expressing optimism about Ibrahim’s contributions to Nigeria and Africa.
At Harvard University, Professor Richard Ainsworth said Ibrahim would be “a strong and influential voice” at the UN, commending Tinubu for appointing “a brilliant man at the right time.”
Ibrahim’s appointment is seen as strategic, reflecting his experience in global diplomacy and legislative engagement, including his role in international parliamentary activities through the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva.
