Oyebanji mourns ex-senator, describes death as huge loss

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has expressed sorrow over the death of the former Senator representing Ekiti South Senatorial District, Anthony Ademiyiwa Adeniyi (SAN), describing his passing as a major loss to Ekiti State and the nation.

Adeniyi, a senior lawyer and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, died on Wednesday at the age of 75. He served in the senate between 2011 and 2015.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, the governor said the late politician made significant contributions to the legal profession, democratic governance and the growth of the APC in Ekiti State.

Oyebanji noted that Adeniyi played a vital role in the legal battles that led to the restoration of the progressive mandate in Ekiti, culminating in the inauguration of former governor, Kayode Fayemi, in 2010.

He also praised the deceased for what he described as effective representation of Ekiti South in the senate, where he championed constitutional and electoral reforms, judicial independence, improved telecommunications services and policies aimed at attracting investment into the country.

The governor further highlighted Adeniyi’s contributions to the legal profession, recalling his service as chairman of the Akure Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association between 1990 and 1992, as well as his years of service on the association’s National Executive Committee.

“Adeniyi’s death is a huge loss to Ekiti and Nigeria. We have lost a distinguished Senior Advocate of Nigeria, a respected politician and one of the illustrious sons of our state,” Oyebanji said.

He urged the deceased’s family to take solace in his enduring legacy of service, dedication and integrity, while praying for the repose of his soul and strength for those he left behind.
