Oyo appoints substantive principal officers for Polytechnic Ibadan after 21 years

The Oyo State Government has appointed substantive principal officers for The Polytechnic, Ibadan, ending more than two decades of acting leadership in the institution’s key administrative positions.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, approved the appointments, naming Dr. Lasisi Taiwo Abideen as rector, Dr. Olajide Taiwo Sherifat as registrar, Mr. Adegbola Abiodun Kolawole as bursar and Mr. Osunrinade Olukunle Akinbola as librarian.

The appointments were announced on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Olusegun Olayiwola, following the governor’s approval conveyed in an official letter.

According to Olayiwola, the appointments followed a transparent and merit-based recruitment process that began with a public advertisement inviting qualified candidates to apply for the positions.

He said shortlisted applicants were subsequently screened and interviewed by the institution’s Governing Council, chaired by Prof. Lanre Nassar, before its recommendations were forwarded to the state government for approval.

The commissioner noted that the polytechnic’s principal offices had been occupied in acting capacities since 2005, describing the appointments as a major step toward strengthening the institution’s administration and governance.

He congratulated the newly appointed officers and expressed confidence that they would provide effective leadership to advance academic excellence, institutional development and efficient service delivery.

A statement by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, said the appointments took effect on July 31, 2026, and that each principal officer will serve a single five-year tenure in accordance with the institution’s governing provisions.
