The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State on Monday held its state congress in Ibadan, with Governor Seyi Makinde declaring that the party is positioned to retain power in the state beyond 2027 and reclaim the presidency in the next general elections.
The congress, which took place at the Basketball Arena of the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, drew delegates, executives, and stakeholders from all 33 local government areas of the state. Party leaders commended the peaceful conduct of congresses from the ward to state levels, describing it as a reflection of the PDP’s internal cohesion and democratic processes.
Addressing party faithful, Governor Makinde tasked the newly elected state executive members to consolidate the PDP’s dominance in Oyo and ensure victory at the local, state, and federal levels. He assured members yet to be accommodated in his administration that they had not been forgotten.

At the end of the exercise, Hon. Dayo Ogungbenro was re-elected as state chairman, while Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke emerged as deputy state chairman.
Other officials elected include Oyelami Oyeyemi as secretary, Olawumi Elizabeth Toyin as women leader, and Bello Kazeem Olalekan as youth leader.
The congress further reaffirmed the PDP’s organisational strength in Oyo State as the party intensifies preparations for the 2027 elections.
