Police arrest suspected cultist in Ekiti over alleged robbery

The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber and alleged cultist, Ojo Adewale, popularly known as “Wale Echo,” over his alleged involvement in a robbery incident in Ado-Ekiti.
The suspect was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad following a complaint by a resident who reported that he was attacked and dispossessed of his belongings at his residence on June 8.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, the complaint prompted an investigation that led detectives to the Atikankan area of Ado-Ekiti, where the suspect was tracked and apprehended.
Abutu said items allegedly stolen from the victim were recovered from the suspect, including a Tecno Spark 20C mobile phone, a cross-body bag, a cord, a set of keys, and an ATM card.
He further disclosed that a search conducted at the suspect’s residence and surrounding areas led to the recovery of a locally fabricated firearm believed to have been used in the operation.
The police spokesperson stated that the suspect confessed to participating in the robbery during interrogation and also admitted to being a member of the Eiye confraternity.
He added that investigations were ongoing and that the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation process.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Michael Falade, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating crime and urged residents to continue providing timely information to assist security operations across the state.
