Police bust cult meeting in Ondo, arrest five suspects

The Ondo State Police Command has foiled a suspected cult gathering in Akungba Akoko, arresting five persons during a raid on a residential building.
The operation, carried out by the command’s Special Anti-Cultism Squad, followed intelligence reports from residents about suspicious activities at the location.
Police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that the suspects were allegedly holding a secret meeting and chanting cult slogans when operatives stormed the area. “Acting on credible information, our operatives moved swiftly to the scene, cordoned off the area and apprehended the suspects without incident,” he said.
Those arrested were identified as Adesuye Dare, Ayeerun Joshua, Ojo Omole, Adu Dele and Akeju Idowu.
According to preliminary findings, the suspects were linked to the Eiye Confraternity, a group associated with violent crimes and threats to public order.
Jimoh added that the group is in custody and has provided useful information to aid ongoing investigations aimed at uncovering other members of the group.
The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, commended both the operatives and residents for their roles, stressing that community cooperation remains vital in tackling crime.
He warned youths against involvement in cultism, reaffirming the command’s resolve to sustain intelligence-led operations and ensure that those arrested are prosecuted.
