Police launch investigation into attack on party chairman in Osun

The Osun State Police Command has launched a comprehensive investigation into the shooting of the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osogbo Local Government Area, Hon. Ashimiyu Ajibola, in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

However, an earlier statement by the Osun State Government had described him as the Chairman of the Accord Party in Osogbo Local Government Area.

The incident was said to have occurred on Wednesday night in the MDS area of Osogbo when two armed men riding a motorcycle allegedly attacked Ajibola in what police described as an attempted murder.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the attack was reported at about 11:50 p.m., prompting the immediate deployment of tactical and conventional police teams to the scene.

The police said officers evacuated the victim to a medical facility, where he is currently receiving treatment. Medical personnel have also confirmed that Ajibola is in a stable condition and responding positively to treatment.

The command added that operational teams had commenced a manhunt for the fleeing suspects, while exhibits recovered from the scene were undergoing forensic examination.

Condemning the attack, the Commissioner of Police in Osun State, CP Ibrahim Gotan, ordered a high-powered investigation into the incident and directed relevant units to deploy all available resources to identify and apprehend those responsible.

“The command wishes to assure members of the public that no stone will be left unturned in the ongoing investigation,” the statement added.
