Police nab suspected kidnapper in Ondo using injury description of victim

The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended a suspected kidnapper in Isua Akoko after a victim reportedly described the injury he inflicted on him while escaping abduction .

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday, adding that the operation was conducted under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal.

According to the police, the case was reported on April 10, 2026, when a resident, Ahmadu, alerted officers at the Isua Division that one of two young men who had gone to Ipesi Akoko for cattle rearing had gone missing.

Following the report, security operatives launched a targeted operation, which led to the safe recovery of the abducted individual.

The victim explained that he was kidnapped at night by three armed men but resisted them, during which he struck one of the suspects and inflicted an injury on his head.

Armed with this information, the police traced a suspect to Obasanjo Motor Park in Isua Akoko in the early hours, where he was found with a noticeable head wound and was promptly arrested. The suspect reportedly admitted his involvement in the crime during interrogation, while the victim later identified him as one of the abductors, pointing to the injury sustained during the struggle.

Police authorities confirmed that the rescued victim had received medical attention, while the suspect had been handed over to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for further investigation ahead of prosecution.

The command praised members of the public for their cooperation, noting that timely information played a key role in the success of the operation, while assuring residents of its resolve to intensify efforts against kidnapping and other criminal activities, urging continued support from the public through credible intelligence sharing.
