Police Service Commission promotes seven AIGs as Frank Mba retires

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has promoted seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) following the retirement of Frank Mba and seven other DIGs from the Nigeria Police Force.
The development is part of the recent restructuring within the police leadership after President Bola Tinubu appointed Tunji Disu as the new Inspector-General of Police, replacing Kayode Egbetokun. Prior to his appointment, Disu served as an AIG, a rank below that of a DIG.
In a statement on Friday, PSC spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, said the newly promoted DIGs emerged after undergoing an oral interview and written examination conducted by the commission.
The promotions, based on merit, seniority, and performance in written and oral examinations conducted at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, also fill vacancies left by the retirement of eight DIGs from key offices across the force.
The newly promoted DIGs are:
- Zachariah Fera Achinyan, fdc – formerly AIG Zone 4, Makurdi
- Zango Ibrahim Baba – formerly AIG, Department of Logistics and Supply
- Isyaku Mohammed – formerly AIG, Armament, Force Headquarters, Abuja
- Margaret Agebe Ochalla – formerly AIG, FCID Annex, Lagos
- Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, mni – formerly AIG, Police Accounts and Budget, Force Headquarters, Abuja
- Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, fdc – formerly AIG Zone 15, Maiduguri
- Umar Shehu Nadada, mni – formerly AIG Zone 14, Katsina
The commission also disclosed that Fayoade Adegoke, who was promoted to the rank of DIG in February 2026, would now join the police force management team.
Mba, who retired from the force after decades of service, joined the Nigeria Police Force in May 1992 as a cadet inspector. He later distinguished himself as the best graduating cadet inspector in academics at the Police Academy in Kano. In June 2023, the PSC approved his appointment as DIG to replace the retired John Amadi as the most senior police officer from the South-East in the police management team.
Over the course of his career, Mba served in several strategic positions, including commissioner of police in Ogun State and commissioner of police in charge of the Border Patrol Force at the Force Headquarters. He also held operational commands as area commander in Ajah and Festac in Lagos and served two terms as the force public relations officer.
Mba studied law at the University of Lagos and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002. He later obtained a master’s degree in law with distinction from the University of Dundee in Scotland.
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has promoted seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to the rank of Deputy Inspectors-General (DIGs) to strengthen the leadership structure of the Nigeria Police Force.
Speaking on the appointments, PSC Chairman DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (Rtd) said, “I urge the newly promoted officers to live up to the expectations of their new offices. They must prioritise national security, uphold professionalism, and foster productive relationships with the Commission to ensure the continued growth and effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force.”
