President Bola Tinubu has expressed sympathy to the Nigerian military following the loss of six soldiers during a terrorist attack on an army base in Sabon Gida, Damboa, Borno State, on January 4.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Thursday, the President extended condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, describing their sacrifice as a noble act of patriotism that will forever be honoured.
President Tinubu commended the armed forces for their swift response, particularly the air component, which launched retaliatory strikes against the attackers. The counterattack resulted in the neutralisation of numerous terrorists and the destruction of their assets as they attempted to flee.
“This resolute action by the Army demonstrates the capability and readiness of our military to confront and defeat threats to our nation’s security,” the President said.
“Their efforts reaffirm our determination to eradicate terrorism and banditry, creating a peaceful and secure future for all Nigerians.”
The President called for a thorough investigation into the attack to uncover its circumstances and draw lessons to prevent similar incidents.
In addition, he urged the military to intensify proactive measures against terrorist and bandit camps, particularly in the Northwest, where criminal activities continue to endanger innocent lives.
President Tinubu also appealed to Nigerians and the media to support the military in its efforts to restore peace and security across the country.
