Presidential media team inspects roads, airport, university projects in Imo

The Renewed Hope Ambassadors and members of the Presidential Communications Team on Wednesday inspected major federal and state government infrastructure projects in Imo State as part of a national media tour aimed at showcasing projects being executed under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The inspection was disclosed in a statement issued by the Director of Media and Publicity of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Tunde Rahman, who said the delegation included members of the Presidential Communications Team and more than 40 senior journalists.

The team toured the completed 56-kilometre Okigwe–Owerri Road, the 36-kilometre Owerri–Obowo–Umuahia Road, the ongoing upgrade of the runway at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, the Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education and the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Owerri.
Speaking during the inspection, Imo State Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, said the projects reflected the strong partnership between the Federal Government and the Imo State Government.
He said the expansion of the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport would transform the facility into a major logistics and export hub.
“The airport is being expanded into a major logistics and export hub with eight modern warehouses for storage and cargo handling. This will boost agricultural exports, commerce and investment in the South-East,” Emelumba said.

The commissioner also said several of the landmark projects were funded by the Imo State Government through increased fiscal resources available to states following the Federal Government’s economic reforms.
Highlighting the upgrade of Alvan Ikoku College of Education to a Federal University of Education, Emelumba described the development as a milestone that previous administrations had failed to achieve.
“This place used to be Alvan Ikoku College of Education Owerri, previously owned by the state. Now, the Federal Government has upgraded it to a university less than a year ago.”
