Reps probes FRSC over number plates issued to council claiming Tinubu, Akume, Wike on board

The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) has questioned the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) over its decision to approve official vehicle number plates for the organisation despite documents listing President Bola Tinubu and several top government officials as members of its governing board.

At the committee’s investigative hearing on Thursday, Chairman Yusuf Gagdi said the PFIPC’s application contained glaring irregularities that should have prompted the FRSC to verify its authenticity before approving the request.

According to Gagdi, those listed on the council’s governing board included President Tinubu; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; FCT Minister Nyesom Wike; the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation; the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria; the Attorney-General of the Federation; and ministers of finance, aviation, agriculture and food security, interior, budget and national planning, marine and blue economy, police affairs, transport, works and power.

The lawmaker said the corps failed to question the unusual composition of the board or authenticate documents that allegedly lacked official government security features.

“We are trying to expose the leakages so that agencies can close these gaps going forward. It is not to indict anybody,” Gagdi said.

He added that the FRSC ought to have sought independent verification from the Presidency and other relevant government institutions before granting the council’s request.

Responding, FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed defended the agency’s actions, insisting that officials followed established procedures in processing the application.

Mohammed told lawmakers that the FRSC received the council’s application on April 4, 2025, followed by a reminder on April 11, both signed by Prince Adeyemi Adeniyi.

He said the application included documents outlining the council’s mandate, governing structure and details of the vehicles for which official number plates were requested.
