Reforms must improve lives, a task before me – Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu has said that ongoing economic reforms must translate into tangible improvements in the daily lives of citizens across Nigeria, stressing that the true measure of national progress is what ordinary people can “see and touch.”
Speaking during his nationwide broadcast marking the third anniversary of his administration on Friday, Tinubu said the government’s development agenda is anchored on building a functional economy supported by infrastructure expansion, including highways, rail modernisation, and increased investment in the energy sector.
“The task before us now is clear: we must ensure that the benefits of reform are felt more directly in the daily lives of ordinary Nigerians,” he said.
The President acknowledged that while not all economic and structural challenges have been resolved, the administration believes the foundation for recovery has been established.
He also noted that efforts are ongoing to sustain recent declines in food prices, which he said have eased from peak levels recorded in 2023 and 2024.
On transportation, Tinubu highlighted ongoing plans to reduce costs by accelerating the transition of commercial vehicles—including buses, trucks, and taxis—from petrol engines to compressed natural gas (CNG) and electric alternatives.
He further stated that the broader reform agenda is aimed at expanding employment opportunities, supporting enterprise growth, and improving conditions for small and medium-sized businesses nationwide.
