TikToker denies bleeding claims, alleges forced ritual, extortion after viral post

A female TikToker who reportedly posted a video of the Oloolu masquerade in Ibadan has denied claims that she suffered severe bleeding, alleging instead that she was forced to undergo traditional rites, made to give a false account of her health and compelled to pay N400,000 under duress.

Speaking in an interview shared on Ayodele Abdulgafar’s social media page on Wednesday, Wasilat recounted the events leading up to the ritual. She maintained that she was in good health before Oloolu masqueraders visited her shop after the video she posted went viral.

According to her, all attempts to apologise were rejected as the masqueraders allegedly cursed her before taking her into custody, claiming they were acting on the orders of the Olubadan. She said she spent a night at the Agugu Police Station before being granted bail the following day.

Wasilat alleged that after her release, she was taken to the masqueraders’ shrine for spiritual cleansing, where her mother was instructed to provide ritual items, including a goat, a red cloth and a blade used to shave her hair against her will.

She claimed the goat was slaughtered and its blood poured on her head, while she was instructed not to wash it off until the following day for the ritual to be effective.

She further alleged that she was made to dance around the shrine as part of the cleansing process. According to her, another disagreement broke out between her husband and the masqueraders over the money demanded for her release, which she said was separate from the amount paid to secure her bail at the police station.

Wasilat claimed her husband eventually paid N400,000 before she was released. She also alleged that she was compelled to state in a live video that she had been bleeding, insisting that she never bled from her ears or private parts as widely reported.

Her allegations have not been independently verified, and the individuals and groups she accused had not publicly responded to the claims as of the time of filing this report.
